Physical features
The Ivory Coast is like a squared-shaped country. The country can be described like a plateau above a mountain, which rises 500 meters above sea level. So you can say that Cote d’lvoire is on top of a mountain!
The three features of the country (Plains, Plateaux & mountains) and the two farming parts of the country (The forest & Savannah) divide the land.
The three features of the country (Plains, Plateaux & mountains) and the two farming parts of the country (The forest & Savannah) divide the land.
Plains
The plains start or begin in the seashore, swampy plains expand in the North. A tropical forest covers half of the Southern country, which cared by the heat and humidity. But near Abijan, the forest is vanishing gradually as a result of growing plantations.
Plateaux
In the Northern part of the area, there is a huge plateau which is full of scattered mounds and hills. This land is the Savannah, it has wooded grasslands that become brown when it comes to the long & dry season. It turns green during the rainy season. Because of the dry climate, the lands are inhabitable( it means it’s hard to live in) to most trees, except for a type of tree called “baobab” which can store massive water using it’s trunks for a long period of time.
Mountains
A long narrow range or hills that has it’s midpoint in Guinea. On top of these mountains (the peak) is the summit of Mt. Nimba which is located to the point where Ivory Coast meets it’s 2 neighboring countries, Guinea & Liberia.
Forest
The forest has different types of plants, trees, shrubs, vines and even medicine plants (herbs). Among these trees are natural rubber. Native trees also include West African coffee tree, African mahogany, cedar and a lot more. Oil and coconut plants live on the coast.
Savannah
The forest region of Ivory Coast, is hot, wet & humid. The Northern part of Savannah is hot and a bit dry. Rain appears only a few days in a month.
