Music and Dance
African Idol (MUSIC)
Cote d'Ivoire has its own local music traditions, showing a lot of strong vocal polyphony (a common individual of African music), especially the Baoule. Talking drums are also common, especially among the Appollo, who are also known for their abissa purification dance. Polyrhythm, another African individual, is found throughout Ivory Coast, and is especially common in the southwest

Gbegbe Dance ExplanationI have no idea what they were doing, so I'm just gonna describe what the dancers were doing STEP BY STEP.
First they were stamping their feet like: right, left, right, left. Then the middle dancer was wiggling his arms and the other dancers were running around the middle dancer. And then the dancers pair up and spin around each other. After that all the dancers wiggle their arms and touch the floor with their right arm. And then the slap their waists and look side by side. Then they ran to the right side of the room. Then they were Stamping the feet rapidly. And they almost collided with each other and spinned while doing so. Thats as much as I can do. |
